11/01/09 - I lost my first tooth today! I was so excited to finally lose a tooth. It had been loose for a while now but I was scared to pull it out. My Mom and Dad and even my Grandma Bland kept saying that it is not even really holding onto anything but I was not so sure. Then this evening I was talking about it, Grandma said let me see it. She put a napkin on it and then said there. I looked at her as if to say “there what” and then I could feel something was different.

I placed my hand to my mouth and where there was once a tooth there was now a whole. I smiled big for Dad as he took some pictures and then it was under the pillow with that tooth.

8/10/09 - Today was another day that I have been looking forward to in a long time. Oh yea, It has been a while since I have posted and I am sorry. I guess I take after my Dad in that regard. Anyway back to me and the reason you are reading this.

So I wake up and my Dad had not gone to work yet and had made my favorite breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, orange rolls, and grape juice. I was a little rushed cause I slept in but really enjoyed the meal and then was herded off to my room to get ready.

Once dressed and down stairs I boarded the big red school bus and took the short drive to school. As we walked in we were directed to the gym where we waited, separated into groups according to what grade we were in, until Principle Wright gave us his yearly “first day of school speech”. While we were waiting I looked around and waved to all the kids I recognized from my kindergarten class last year. They our names were read and we went off with our new teacher.

Mom and Dad thought they were smart and stealth like when they tried to follow me without me knowing it. I knew however and just let them have there fun. They they left and I was in my first grade class where I would be for the entire day.

After Mom and Dad left, or at least I could not see them, they headed to the nurses station to give them my medicines and the Epi Pen that I use only if needed. When they arrived they were given news that they knew would devastate me. You see although I like school and was sure it would be great the only thing that I really wanted to do was eat lunch at school. I don’t mean a lunch brought from home but a hot school lunch! However this was not to be and my parents were only learning about it on the first day of school.

Because of the allergies that I have the school corporation now has a policy that me and others like me cannot eat the hot lunch. Not only that but we are segregated in order to minimize possible contact with others foods that might be contaminated. So not only would I not be eating my hot lunch but I would be sitting by myself.

Mom broke the news to me the best that she could have and all things considered she said I handled it pretty well. At first I was upset then I finally agreed to sit down with Mom. She had brought my cousins with me and we all enjoyed happy meals from McDonald’s while all the other kids ate “school lunch”! Who is the cool kid now?

Then Mom went out an bought a really cool lunch box that I get to take my lunch in. It is not hot lunch but I love the lunch box and the food is better I am told.

For some pictures, way too many were taken, of the days events click HERE.

8/11/08 - Today was a day I have been looking forward to for a very long time. I started school today! Because
my Dad just finished taking the bar exam and does not start work until next week both he and Mom were able to take me to my first day. First we loaded up in the car, I wanted to ride my bike but Mom said not on the first day as we had lots of stuff we had to take with us. When we arrived, 5 minutes later, my teacher was waiting by the curb to take us to the front of the school and line up until all the other students had arrived. I go in the afternoons so it is pretty calm when we get there. My teachers name is Mrs. Wells and she makes us color alot. Not my favorite thing but more on that later.

When I was dropped off Mom took it like a grown women and did not shed a tear. We found out that every day the teacher will come out of the building to get us and take us inside. This was a relief for Mom as once Dad starts work he will not be around to take care of Ren and Fish and Mom did not want to have to take everyone inside to drop me off, completely understandable as I know how kids there age can act!

For those of you that read Thomas Jefferson Education you will like this little story. When I was dropped off Mom realized that she had left the house without my peanut free snack and an EpiPen. So while Dad returned home to retrieve that stuff, Mom waited at the curb and I headed to class with my teacher and we began our first assignment. When Mom returned to the class to drop off the stuff I looked up at her and said,
“Mom do I have to draw a flower?” This will only mean something to those familiar with the above mentioned book as it is an example given right at the start. Mom just smiled and said “you have to do what the teacher asks of you”, and that was that.

Pick-up went smoothly also and I am totally stoked to go back tomorrow.

This is a picture I drew of my school.

6/18/08 - My karma is catching up to me.  No, Roo’s karma is catching up with him. No. We’ve just had an eventful first two days since arriving in Utah.

Here are the details. We flew in on Tuesday afternoon whole and well (which is a lot to say when traveling by air with 3 kids-Thanks Grandma Madsen for helping out). Wednesday we headed over to my brother’s house to enjoy a nice afternoon playing outside and visiting. This went well until sometime around 4:00 when Roo came to the back door sobbing/screaming and Cole came along to tell the story. All I really got was that, Roo fell off the 3 ft slide and landed on his arm.

Ok so what happened next…. speed version. He refused to use his arm for anything the rest of the day. He generally kept it
close to his body and would only move it when he was having a lot of fun or absolutely had to. I checked it out later that night and…it looked like maybe it was swollen but what do I know (I’m the absolute worst when it comes time to take my kids to the doctor). So I decided to watch it the next day. He still nursed it and was super careful not to bug it.
After Ren’s birthday celebration, I headed to Grandma’s to put the girls to bed and take Roo to the ER. (Oh yippee) At the ER Roo had x-rays, and a ride in a large wheelchair. This almost made up for the disappointment he felt when he found out Ren got to ride in an ambulance and he didn’t. The Doc came back said he couldn’t find a break but there is swelling and fluid on the elbow…. which means, we need to follow up with our primary car physician in a week (ha, ha, hee…anyone who knows our current situation may understand why I find that humorous…in more ways than one)

The kind doctor put a splint on his arm and told him to keep it still for a week. Ha ha ha…oh I think that is so funny.

5/9/08 - I had my kindergarten check up today and that meant more shots. I came home and was so excited to tell my Dad that I did not even cry! It was the greatest, they called them my kindergarten shots. I weighed in at about 39 pounds (Mom could not remember and the doctor did not give her a piece of paper to remind her) and I am now 48 inches tall (4 feet even), They can’t keep me off of many rides at Disneyland now, bring it on!

Although I had a great appointment it was kind of cool and different because we had to walk from the parking lot next door. Mom missed the entrance to the doctors and went into the next parking lot instead. As we turned around and then pulled out into the street the engine just began to make a very high pitched sound and we stopped moving. There were to really nice workers near by that came and pushed the car off the street and back into the parking lot. I sure am glad it was Mom and not Dad driving, he probably would have yelled loud enough for the Ford guys in Detroit to hear that ANOTHER Ford bit the dust. Dad is funny that way, as if yelling will change anything. Mom on the other hand didn’t seem to mind. We were early for the appointment, the girls were being watched by a friend and we were right next to the doctors office.

We went to the appointment and then afterwords the fun started. Mom called somebody named “Triple A” (kind of a funny name if you ask me) and told him we broke down. The next thing I know our van was being lifted into the air by this big blue tow truck, it was way cool to watch! The tow truck guy even let us ride in with him to our house. I was so high I could see all the other cars on the road. Then he took our van to the garage where it was going to get fixed. I love tow trucks and tow truck guys, they are awesome. Dad does not feel the same way and I don’t know why.

5/1/08 - I graduated from preschool today. It was lots of fun. For our last class we made our own graduation caps and had a cool treat that looked just like what we made. I even sang the song that we learned and not only did I sing but I was the loudest. At graduation we were presented with a diploma and we got a Michigan writing pad and pencil!

After graduation Dad took me to Dairy Queen and we each ate a small chocolate dipped ice cream cone. We were even able to eat it inside the restaurant. Then it was home so that Mom and Dad and Grandma Bland could get back to packing. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted! Click here for some pictures (Dad’s camera battery died so I hope that some of my friends mom’s will email the pictures they took of me so Dad can put them up here also) and maybe even a movie of me singing our graduation song, if Dad ever really gets it up.

4/25/08 - I saw Mom come down the stairs for her date and made her day I am sure. As soon as I saw her I loudly exclaimed “Mom you look beautiful in that pretty dress.”

4/13/08 - A few weeks ago I received my first primary assignment, I was told that I get to speak in the microphone! Mom kept reminding me that I had to prepare a talk but all i remember is I was told I get to talk in the microphone, have I told you I get to talk in the microphone?

So on Saturday, April 12, 2008 mom helped me prepare my talk. It was on prophets as that is this months theme. I practiced and practiced, with pictures and all and was all ready to talk in the microphone today. Below you will find the content of my talk:

Roo’s Primary Talk

Follow the Prophet

4/13/08

Heavenly Father speaks to his prophets. Noah was a Prophet. the Lord told Noah to build an ark because there would be a flood. Noah obeyed. Noah also told the people to repent and prepare. The people did not follow the prophet, they perished in the flood, (I told this story without being prompted by Mom, Mom held a picture of Noah and the ark while I told the story).

We have a prophet today, his name is Thomas S. Monson (Mom held up Pres. Monson’s picture here). We can follow the prophet by doing what he says.

In General Conference last week the prophet told us many things. One thing he asked us to do is to follow the 13th Article of Faith.

I will do what Heavenly Father asks by following our prophet. I say this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

********

I did very well and loved talking in the microphone, people said the talk was good too. I did have a blow up though as I walked away from the microphone because, as you can see from above, Mom held the pictures, she was supposed to let me hold them while I talked. Just because I was so excited to talk in the microphone and forgot is not a good enough reason for Mom to have held them. Also don’t give me the old “but you hold pictures in front of your face and people can’t hear me” speech, I was talking into a microphone and everyone could hear me.

4/05/08 - See pictures of my parties, click here!

3/29/08 - I turned 5 today! It was a very exciting day for me because now I get to change my name. That’s right I am now Roo 5 instead of Roo 4. Although because I have been writing my name as Roo 4 for so long I noticed I was writing Roo 4 5 today. I will have to work on that.

I had a first fifth birthday party in Indiana with Grandma and Grandpa Bland and my cousins there and it was lots of fun too, but today was my real birthday!

The day began as all my birthdays do, I was able  to choose what breakfast would be. I told Mom I wanted Swedish pancakes, bacon, eggs, orange rolls and grape juice. While Dad was out getting some of the stuff he also got sausage links as he knows those are my favorite also. Mom forgot to make the eggs, as I explained to Grandma Bland, but everything else was perfect.

I was waiting all day to see if my Grandma and Grandpa Madsen would make it and was glad when we were able to go to the airport to pick up Grandpa Madsen. Grandma ended up having to rent a car in Minneapolis, MN and drive to my home. (Although I do not know it yet Cesily is with her also.)

Then this afternoon I had my friends party. It was lots of fun! We made shields and colored them, we also had a sword and we made little pizzas. I opened my gifts and was very excited for everyone of them, i even remembered to say thank after opening each one, almost. FInally we ate the castle cake my Mom made for me. She is the greatest, always going out of her way to make the coolest cakes. This year I even got to help her decorate it. It was way cool using the word chocolate as the draw bridge. you will have to check out the pictures to see just how cool it was.

3/11/08 - Last night I was not having a good night. It started during Family Home Evening when I would not calm down and sit with the rest of the family. I would not obey and although Mom and Dad were calm (they really seem to be working on that) and never raised their voices at me I continued to get more upset as the evening went on.

Unfortunately Dad  has other obligations at 7:00 every Monday night so he help Mom get started with bedtime but must leave before we are tucked up and sleeping. After Dad had left I really started to loose it and Mom had to take-away story time (song time had been taken away earlier as neither I nor Ren were reverent during prayer). As Mom was in Ren’s room reading to her she heard me start coming from my room to Ren’s. Mom was fully expecting me to be all emotional that Ren was getting a story and I was not (as if). However this was not my concern and I was much more emotional than normal.

When I came in I looked at Mom with my big crocodile tears and said, “When we move to Grandma Bland’s will she let me bring my monsters? I don’t think she will let me bring them because she will not want them at her house. Mommy I do not want to leave them here I want to take them with me.”

It appeared that Mom was taken back slightly as she was not expecting anything other than complaints. Mom assured me that we could ask Grandma but that she was sure Grandma would not mind. We tried to call her but got no answer so left a message. The next day Grandma did give me permission to bring them, although she was concerned that they had a place to stay and Mom assured her that I had already made them a house and it is in my room now. ( A picture will be coming shortly)

2/25/08 - So I had another doctors appointment today, this time was for the testing. They took my measurements and I will only give them to you because this time they had me take my shoes and coat off.

       Height:            41 1/4 inches

        Weight:            37.9 lbs

         BP:                    86/51

Then they did the tests. For the first time I was not too thrilled about all the scraping. I mean they had to put six marks on each arm and fourteen on my back. I know it really does not hurt all that bad but WOW, who wants go through that willingly. So in true form I cried with some big crocodile tears and Dad had to restrain me for most of the scrapes. Once they were done I was fine though, except for a little itching on the peanut mark.

In the end I am still highly allergic to peanuts and other tree nuts, peas, beans and the like. On a more positive note it seems that I have very little if any allergies to grasses and pollens, although the doctor did tell dad that this could change the older I get.

I do have to have some blood work done to verify the extent of the peanut allergies but I convinced dad that I don’t like that part and to go tomorrow instead of getting it done today. What a sucker dad is!

Oh well, peanuts can’t be all that great and the way I see it I am missing out on more fat food that anything worth eating.

2/18/07 - I went to the allergist today so they did the usual pre talk to the doctor thing and made me take all my measurements. Dad is a freak so he wrote them down so you all could see them. As of today I weigh 39.3 pounds and can almost ride the rides that require me to be 42 inches tall. Actually with my shoes on I was 42 and 1/8 inches tall, The nurse guessed that my shoes added an inch so she put my official height as 41 and 1/8 inches. I am sure I can pull of at least 42 inches if I have to. Now you will all see how freaky my Dad really is, he even wrote down what my blood pressure was. And although I tried to convince him none of you would care he insisted that it be noted here, something about posterior or posterity, I don’t know. So cause he wrote it down I will share it with you the green thing that was squeezing my are beeped and the numbers 78/48 were flashing on the screen. What that means I do not know, your guess is as good as mine, but dad sure thought somebody would care.

Because I have been taking my Claritin daily they were not able to test me for allergies but we rescheduled for next week. I sure hope the severity of my peanut allergy is declining. I know, I know I won’t get my hopes up. Until then I am out!

2/03/08 - One of the primary presidency was in my class today and I volunteered to give the prayer for our class. She thought it was cute and called to let Mom and Dad know. For whatever reason we were not home and so a message was left. This is how my prayer was described:

  1. 2/03 @ 2:03 p.m.- So I got to um this is K. M. I got to sit in on Roo's class today and to just be there as you know second help and uh Roo said the opening prayer and it went something like this: "bless that mommy will make something yummy for lunch" he said a few other things which I don't remember but then the last thing was like, "and please bless Daddy to choose not to put me into time out." (laughter) Oh it was so cute I just couldn't stand it, I had to tell ya, I'll talk to you later, bye

That is all.
