Because Katie’s “El Movio” movie critique page has become my sole source for choosing which movies I watch; I wanted to help others in a similar way. I thought and thought . . . My brain child from this thought process… I will read a book and tell everyone about it!
The Last Lecture
Uncle Tom’s Cabin

Until we find another free moderator, there will be no way for anyone to leave comments on our site. Why blog if you can’t communicate with other people.

2)-MOM (aka Gwen) doesn’t know how to use iweb so any updates she puts on the site have to be added by BOY (aka Ryan)

3)-BOY has been very busy and unable to update the site as much as he would like

4)-anythingbutbland is running on an old version of iweb and in order to add a new post, ALL posts on the site are re-downloaded. Have you noticed how long this site has been up? Its been a while, there are a lot of posts and that means…each new post takes about and hour or so to post and sometimes old archives get dropped.

5)-MOM wants to take “Mom’s review” in a new direction. She wants Mom’s review to more interactive with the readers and she wants to expand into subjects that are not necessarily family related.

The SOLUTION:

…..site under construction….
Updates to be unveiled shortly

Synopsis:
Rick is facing some problems in his life. Because he is feeling unappreciated and unloved in his marriage he is considering calling it quits. Through a few special visits from his Grandfather, he learns that “being mistreated is the most important condition of mortality, for eternity itself depends on how we view those that mistreat us.” He learns how to use Christ’s atonement to heal his heart and start anew.

Review:
I love this book and believe that if you only read 5 books in your life, this should be one of them. This book initiated such a profound change in how I search the scriptures and, in turn, deepened my relationship with my Heavenly Father in a way I could never have imagined. I give this book 5-stars.

In many ways this book is similar to “The Great Divorce” by C.S. Lewis. The author takes us on a journey with a character that is learning as he progresses and allows us to eavesdrop on the private lessons being taught. If the reader is willing, they will be able to find application from the characters understanding to his own. Its my opinion that although its rewarding to work for something and reap the benefits, it’s also nice to receive a gift, all wrapped up with a bow, that contains everything you need for a moment. This book is one of those gifts.

Through discussion of this book with dear friends I also learned that I love books where the solution echo’s thoughts I have had prior to reading the book. I guess I just like it when I learn that my random thoughts and solutions may not be so random, other people are having them too. I like to be validated. However on the flip, I also like to learn. I want a book that will get me thinking about something new. This book did both.

On this, my second read of this book, I really enjoyed thinking and learning about agency and will. Many choose to believe we are free to choose in all things, which essentially we are, but the idea that we have endless possibilities of choice, is not so. It is possible that with all choices we really just have two options: Giving our will to God or giving our will to Satan and that is it. This thought is not new, just new to me. I’ve seen it here almost all my life but with this read it really started to click “Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.” (See 2 Nephi 2:27) In short, we have no will, only the choice between serving God or mammon (Matthew 6:24). If You’re up for further elaboration & discussion on the issue, bring it on.

Synopsis:
The author attempts to tell the story of how the Wicked Witch of the West became such.

Review:
The author failed. Miserably. I give this book ½ a star. The author did however, present a challenge…I could never figure out what he was trying to accomplish in this raunchy love story (was it a love story?) and wannabe political thriller.

It was really, really bad. Don’t read it EVER, your life will be better if you read NOTHING. This book tells another side of a classic story and sucks all of the fun out of what Oz was. I’ve always had a problem when an author tries to fill in the work of another. In fact I really don’t even like it when the original author writes his own sequel.

Now, as you may have noticed from other reviews, I try to learn something from each book I read (even the fluff and terrible). There was one idea that presented itself early in the book. Had I been in tune with what was written, I would have immediately put the book down and found something else.

In a conversation Elphaba was having with Galinda in regard to which courses they would take at school. Elphaba was telling Galinda that one of the subjects she was interested in was, in essence, beneath anyone with a functioning brain. Galinda responded by telling her she was wrong and that like learning to read or to write or to “spell” it matters little that you know how to any of those things, it matters what you read, write or “spell”. I loved the idea. I should have listened to Galinda and put the book down because I was wasting my ability to read and my precious time to do so with this garbage. How this book was adapted to a hit Broadway show, I may never know. I read this book because I didn’t have the money to go see the production. Now that I’ve read it, I have lost almost all desire to see the show. The idea was good; tell the story of the wicked witch of the west, but it fell apart after conception. I can’t believe someone published this. It gives me hope that maybe someday, I could be published too. My work can’t possibly be as bad as this.
